THE GIRLS IN THE GARDEN, by Lisa Jewell, narrated by Colleen Prendergast
Mystery/Thriller -- 4 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars
Book: In this communal London garden surrounded by apartments filled with average families where everyone knows everyone, children run free. Then a new family moves in, and loyalties are realigned. Just as the new family seems to be settling in, one of the "girls in the garden" is attacked. Is the new family's missing father to blame? Or should the residents begin looking at their own? ----- Peopled with a cast of interesting and diverse characters, even the children--in that awkward place between childhood and adolescence--are believable. The book's somewhat lazy pace is both a plus (it fits the friendly garden atmosphere) and a minus (it tamps down the tension.)
Narration: I'm not a fan of female readers, but Colleen Prendergast could change my mind. Clearly read with none of the fake voices that so often plague books read by women. Enjoyable and relaxing while keeping my interest throughout.
