THE TEA GIRL OF HUMMINGBIRD LANE, by Lisa See
Literature -- 5 stars
When a young Chinese girl gives birth to a child out of wedlock, she travels to a distant city where she secretly abandons the child. Her daughter is adopted by a wealthy American couple and grows up in privilege, while she returns to a primitive life that revolves around the seasons of growing and processing tea. Well written and fascinating. I couldn't help thinking that Pearl S. Buck would have approved.
