GIRL THROUGH GLASS, by Sari Wilson

Literature -- 3 stars

As a child, Mira was a talented dancer dreaming of becoming a ballerina. When reclusive Maurice DuPont recognizes she is special, he offers his tutelage and becomes her mentor and ballet guru.  Eventually accepted into George Balanchines' School of American Ballet, she finds her talent attracts the attention of Mr. Balanchine himself and it seems all her dreams are about to come true.  But the adult Mira is teaching dance at a Midwestern college, neither really happy nor unhappy.  Then she is contacted by a ghost from her NYC past.  Is the story a cautionary tale or simply improbable?  In the end, Mira remains such a cardboard character that the answer to that really doesn't matter.
